When blocks are laid, they will either have the outside perimeter concreted in, or meet an edge of kerbs concreted in, to keep the whole drive secure and boxed in, reducing the chance of movement. A 4inch hardcore base, made from mot type 1, is installed to support and cover the whole drive. A layer of sharp sand in screeded in the centre of the drive to lay the blocks on. Because the centre blocks are dry laid, it means that they can easily be lifted and replaced if ever necessary. However, under normal domestic use this shouldn’t be needed for decades!
With a tarmac drive we install a base of tarmac at 50mm and then a topper (finisher) of 25mm. Some companies may not do this or only install half of this depth, but they are proven to not last as long, or not handle the weight of a car being on it every day. So for that reason, we will never cut corners.
Our tarmac drives are offered with or without a block edge border.
With a gravel driveway, a border will first be installed and concreted in place to hold it in and stop any gravel from moving off the drive. There are a large range of different gravels to choose from and they come in all different colours and sizes. A landscape membrane and correct subbase is a must needed start for this project.
We can also build walls made from either bricks or sleepers. With the brick walls it is essential to have the correct size foundation put in and have the bricks laid in a style that each customer would like.
Sleeper walls are installed by being screwed to a number of sleeper support posts that are concreted in to the ground to support the wall.
